The UK leg of Lizzo’s current tour came to a penultimate end with another display of boundless energy as the singer made the first of two scheduled appearances at London’s O2 Arena on Wednesday.
The singer worked her way through a back-catalogue of hits from her four albums in front of a full house at the cavernous Greenwich venue, her last stop on English soil before returning to the United States.
Opting for a form-fitting yellow bodysuit with sheer detailing, Lizzo, 34 – real name Melissa Jefferson – was full of her usual infectious enthusiasm after joining her entourage of musicians and back-up dancers on-stage.
The American star is reaching the final run of shows on her 62-date Special World Tour, which is expected to end in California’s Thousand Palms on June 2.
The tour has already criss-crossed Canada and the United States, mainland Europe and the United Kingdom – with one more show to be held at the O2 on March 16 before it heads for Knoxville, Tennessee.
In March, Lizzo delighted fans after stopping her show at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro to help a couple get engaged.
The singer was performing when she spotted a concert-goer holding their phone up with the message: ‘Ask my brother’s boyfriend to marry him.’
She then put the microphone in front of the man and he said: ‘Will you marry me?’ while being beamed onto a giant screen behind her.
Amid cheers from the crowd, he added: ‘For the love of god, just say yes,’ prompting the Truth Hurts songstress to ask: ‘What do you say?’
Away from her ongoing tour Lizzo will also headline Australia’s Splendour in the Grᴀss 2023 this July.
The American singer was announced as the main act on Wednesday, with the other performers set to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
‘Lizzo has shifted the sound, soul, and spirit of popular music,’ a festival spokesperson said in a statement.
‘Lizzo makes her Splendour debut armed with her biggest, boldest, and brightest revolution thus far: her hugely adored second full-length offering Special.
‘Bursting with chunky disco-funk beats designed to make you move, Special’s spirited, charismatic anthems are her most adventurous yet.’
