A number of Angelina Jolie fans were left unimpressed by her recent Vogue Mexico cover, claiming the actress looked ‘sad’ on it.
The Gia star, 49, graced the cover of the magazine’s December issue, where she spoke about releasing her ‘private pain’, as she alluded to her split from ex husband Brad Pitt, 60.
Jolie split from her film star husband after a disputed incident on a plane in 2016. In her interview she discussed how she used her upcoming role as opera singer Maria Callas in a new biopic to deal with the pain.
The cover —sH๏τ by pH๏τographer Dan Martensen — featured Jolie in a black Christian Dior dress, her somber expression and flowing brunette hair creating a melancholic image.
Fans took online to slam the ‘unflattering’ cover, with one writing, ‘She looks really sad here, like she got the worst possible news just before she walked on set.’
‘These look like outtakes. It takes skill to make Angelina Jolie look this bad,’ someone else on theFashionSpot forum added.

‘Not good,’ yet another person chimed in.
‘That’s quite an unflattering sH๏τ of Angelina Jolie. Not her best angle. That being said, I like the coloring and the simplicity of it all.’
Another commentator said the image looked ‘so low budget.’
However, others appreciated the rawness of the image.
‘I love the idea of Angelina Jolie as a cover star. Her face at least wasn’t retouched in such a way magazines do!’
In her interview, Angelina spoke about her latest role, and explained how opera made her visit the ‘deeper parts of myself’ and life as she learned to ‘access a new part of herself’ to sing.
‘I had to take a deep breath and let it all out, and in between that, I also had to let out my real voice… which I also didn’t really have, because it’s where I carried my private pain, my gentleness, and a lot of things that I felt I didn’t own, that I didn’t feel safe letting out, it also involved owning something that I didn’t want to deal with,’ she said.
‘There’s something that happens in these beautiful pieces of music that you can’t sing unless you can access a certain part of yourself.’
Angelina has said in court documents that Brad ᴀssaulted her and some of their six children and poured wine and beer on the family in a rage. He has always denied being violent towards her or the family.
