More than five years ago, Gigi Hadid was known as the daughter of former model and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Hadid . Or to be more precise, like Yolanda Hadid’s daughter.

Now a supermodel, Gigi becomes frustrated when people credit her family connections for her success, according to ELLE magazine .

“I understand it. I come from a privileged situation and I recognize it,” the 23-year-old told the magazine in a cover interview for its March 2019 issue. “But since my mother was on a TV show, people You think my whole childhood was about fame. It absolutely wasn’t. My mom was a model. She moved to the United States at 16 to send money to her family in Holland. My dad was a refugee and worked every step of the way to get to the top. I work hard to honor my parents.”

In 2016, Yolanda changed her last name from her ex-husband David Foster and took that of her first ex-husband and father of her daughters, Mohamed Hadid . She also left the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills . For her and Mohamed’s youngest daughter, Gigi’s 22-year-old sister, Bella Hadid , also made her own name as a supermodel. Both women’s careers have blossomed in recent years and they are now more famous than their mother.
